Young’s Seafood Limited have announced that they will continue to sponsor trophy-winning volleyball team, the Livingston Lizards, for the Scottish Volleyball League’s upcoming season, and Britain’s biggest volleyball event, the Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament (SOVT).

Livingston Lizards began to play as a team in February 2014 and now have 30 players spread across mixed, men’s and women’s teams, with ten team-members employed at Macrae Edinburgh. Macrae Edinburgh is part of Young’s Seafood Limited, the UK’s number one fish and seafood processor, which is home to the award winning Young’s Seafood brand.

Young’s Seafood’s sponsorship will be put towards the Lizard’s league registration and the hosting of home games as the Edinburgh team push for further glory in their second season in the Scottish Volleyball League.

Phil Nickells, Managing Director at Macrae Edinburgh, commented: “At Young’s Seafood Limited, we believe in doing the right thing by people and the communities we work in and I’m delighted that we will be sponsoring the Livingston Lizards for the upcoming season. This is a great, healthy initiative and I wish all players the best of luck. We look forward to seeing more Young’s Seafood employees joining the Lizards in the future.”

Young’s Seafood supported the Lizards last year as the teams put together impressive cup-runs to go alongside their maiden spell in the Scottish Volleyball League.

Alex Doinikovs, Cold Smoked Manager at Macrae Edinburgh and Livingston Lizards player, commented:

“We are delighted to be sponsored by Macrae Edinburgh for our second season and that our relationship will continue after a successful first season in the Scottish Volleyball National League Division 2, where we finished third out of nine teams.”

Livingston Lizards have also been successful at Scottish Plate and the Scottish Open Volleyball Tournament where we managed to win Men’s Division 2 in 2016.

It’s much easier to play in a team when the team members work together. It boosts cohesiveness within a team and at work. We want to continue this trend and are trying to engage more players from Macrae and other local communities. We are determined to win SVL Division 2 next season and hope to be promoted into Division 1.”

The Livingston Lizards are currently recruiting in workplaces and communities around Edinburgh and will be taking three teams to the Open Volleyball Tournament 2016, where over 1000 entrants will take to the court for the two-day tournament.
