  • Gastro 2 Beer Battered Cod Fillets

Back in January, Young’s Seafood introduced us to a new ambassador for the brand. Malcolm the Cat, voiced by Rupert Everett, is a discerning foodie cat who yearns for the delicious Young’s fish served up by his family.  Fans of the Young’s ‘restaurant quality fish’ range will be able to taste new Gastro products when they hit supermarket shelves this month with the addition of 3 cook-in-the-bag natural fish products, new premium meals and delicious Beer Battered Cod Fillets.

Wayne Hudson, Managing Director of Young’s Seafood’s Frozen business said: “We’re delighted that our Gastro range is bringing new shoppers to frozen food. Research shows that over the past year, 51.4% of sales have been incremental to the category (Kantar 52  w/e 1 February), proving that the range is bucking the trend in frozen fish.  With value sales up 29% over the last year (Nielsen 52 w/e 31 January 2015), the addition of these fantastic new products will help position Gastro as a true power brand in its own right.”

This move sees the Gastro brand enter into the frozen natural fish category for the first time, providing individually wrapped portions of succulent fish in a clever ‘flavour-lock’ pouch. With an easy-open scallop edge carton and a fishmonger-style sauce portion, consumers can enjoy the best quality fish in a quick and convenient manner – ready to microwave or oven bake.

Young’s Gastro is also adding new and exciting international flavours to the existing meals for one range, including a South Indian Fish Curry and Seafood Paella. These dishes, created by Young’s in-house development chef, are a contemporary addition to the range and give consumers the opportunity to recreate restaurant quality meals at home.

Also building on the huge success of the existing Gastro coated range, Young’s will introduce a true gastropub classic, premium Beer Battered Cod Fillets.

Commenting on the new products, Serge Nollent, Young’s Development Chef said: “As the Nation’s favourite brand of battered fish, it’s been so exciting to create a really premium high-quality Beer Battered Cod product.  All these new Gastro dishes combine flaky, succulent responsibly sourced fish with the best recipes and the most exciting flavours to give consumers a helping hand to create delicious fish dishes at home. We see these new products as the next step in growing our already hugely successful Gastro range.”

Fans of Malcolm will be overjoyed to see him on their screens again this month, as he celebrates the Young’s Chip Shop brand turning 30 in a brand new advert.
